fantastic rugby with the modus challenge cup

Posted on Oct 07, 2013 by

the modus challenge cup serves up great schools rugby for it's 7th year!

The rivalry between Worcester’s King’s school and the Royal Grammar School is long standing and remains a fiercely fought affair none more so than in the rugby fixture which has produced current premiership players Jonny Arr and Luke Narraway.

We look forward to welcoming RGS Worcester and King’s Worcester as we support the seventh annual modus challenge cup at the home of the Worcester Warriors on 23 October.

Since 2006 Modus have supported this key date in the local schools rugby calendar, once again hosted at Sixways with the game being played on the Warriors premiership pitch. Each year over 3000 people witness this mighty clash between our city’s leading schools. This game is a fantastic advert for rugby and displays all of the core values that both schools promote; sportsmanship , teamwork, respect, discipline and most of all enjoyment.

The history so far: 2007 saw a win for the Royal Grammar sShool with a 20-12 victory with skipper Elliot Bee lifting the modus challenge cup for the first time.

We saw Kings revenge in the second year 2008 with a 21-7 victory.

RGS successfully won the trophy back in 2009 with fly half Bill Harling grabbing the only points in a closely fought encounter between the two schools with a narrow 3-0 win.

2010 was a Brrrr with heavy snow forcing the game to be cancelled.

King’s of Sixways was the headline in 2011 with the fith annual modus challenge cup and King’s were victorious over RGS with a 34-6 win by a record margin.

2012 was a dicey affair with the game being re-arranged due to poor weather and after a hard fought match King’s retained the modus challenge with a 15-3 win.

The annual Modus Challenge Cup returns on Wednesday 23 October 2013 the game will be kicking off at 7pm under the floodlights, with RGS looking to gain revenge after King’s School have won the last two annual events.
